and education programs, with scientific, public health and
socioeconomic perspectives taken into account.
In 1992, Dr. Galinski founded the Malaria Foundation
International (MFI;
www.malaria.org
),
which she continues to lead today as President.
Over the past 15
years she has worked as both an academic malaria research scientist and
advocate for the disease through MFI programs and by supporting various
new global initiatives that support the fight against malaria.
The Malaria
Foundation International has been instrumental in bringing attention on
malaria from a state of 'silence' in the public eye to a growing level
of international awareness of this major global health and socioeconomic
problem and a sense of urgency to tackle it forcefully.
The MFI with Dr. Galinski's leadership was awarded the Media Tenor
Special Award for 2006.
While gaining
attention and support through the promotion of some immediate solutions
to prevent or treat malaria, the MFI and ICMRE are developing

research for vaccines and medical treatments, training and leadership
development, and addressing the importance of entrepreneurship and
economic development hand-in-hand with fighting malaria.
Dr. Galinski is an internationally recognized leader as
a scientist and for her efforts to raise awareness of the enormity of
the malaria burden worldwide, and advocate for the increase of expanded
research resources, interdisciplinary collaborative linkages, and the
development and implementation of effective solutions to this major

Dr. Galinski also emphasizes the need to train the next
generation of malaria experts, and encourage the participation of
educators, business and health leaders worldwide in this effort.
Towards these aims, she encourages new passionate leaders of all ages
and backgrounds to rise up and help tackle different aspects of the
malaria problem, whether scientific, medical, social, educational,
financial, political, or pertaining to sustainable development issues,
etc.

first major global advocacy campaigns against malaria in the late 1990s
and developed the first press kit leading to worldwide media attention.
